The Art of.

Was just talking with some mates today about the new Assassins Creed game, we all pre-ordered the first game and had a sort of unwritten rivalry to see who could complete it first, I didn't win, but that's another story.

Anyway, I decided to take out my Assassins Creed limited edition tin box, and was flippin' through the *tiny* graphic novel, with art by David Levy, at the time he was unknown to me as I wasn't into art at the time, but now, breaking down his images, it was a lot of fun!

In the same drawer I then decided to take out my 'Art of Grand Theft Auto' book that I got with GTA: IV when I pre-ordered it, and man, I was oblivious at the time, but the art is absolutely amazing and it's not necessarily just the 2D stuff, but the 3D visualizations of the entire cities is just awe aspiring.

Really inspired at the moment and would love to start some sketches to perhaps do a small graphic novel, could be cool, I thinks.

Until next time guys, take-care, and peace :)

Lost City

Finally finished this mofo, I'm happy with my outcome in terms of the workflow, if I made a mistake I fixed it, was a really fun project, and took a pretty long time, haha!

Takecare guys!

Oh my.

No excuse this time guys, except for the usual laziness of course, but I seriously just forgot to update this bugger, I've been keeping my sketchbooks updated, though, somewhat xD

So check back there for anything you may have missed.

But in short, I've started matte painting, i've loved the stuff for years and have finally sat down and decided to do my own one, this is my latest one, wip/progress shots and base plate can be found at both sketchbooks :)

At the moment, water needs fixing, sky replacement needs to be done, and I'm still not happy with those buildings, *sigh*.  Around 3 days work so far, on and off, really want to get this polished to a high standard!

Not quite sure.

Hey guys, once again, sorry for being so lazy.. I just have been so strict on what I upload, quality wise anyway.

Heres a quick prac I did in photoshop because atm I am really considering going back to photoshop for painting, it is so far more superior to painter in so many ways, photoshop has its flaws, but not gaping flaws like painter.

Here ya go, was fun, found it really easy to add in blue hues for lighting and to blend out, something I was having difficulties with in painter.. :)

Mia

Another alchemy image, I really like the laid back way the program makes me work, the randomness of all the shapes really lets you envision things, its amazing :)

Now I needa find a way to take these further..

Thanks for viewing, have a nice day!!

Mechusa

Heres my random creation I dubbed 'Mechusa' a reinvention of Medusa.

I like it, just happy I finally got some productive out of Alchemy :)

Great open-source software by the way.

I may or may not continue this piece in Painter, stay tuned!

Samurai WIP

my samurai painting thus far, about 2-3 hours so far i think, ultimately decided to use artrage, so yeah, i'm off to bed, but will return to it tomorrow and it should be done by then, hopefully I can save those eyes before they end up looking any worse..

i'm happy with the skin tones they may need softening or perhaps some yellow or pink glazes, but ill get to that when I need too :)

Samurai

God damn i've been lazy!

Guys i'm sorry, i've been slacking off lately, and with the homework I've got atm, really just used it as an excuse to neglect my sketchbooks..

this latest was sketched from reference of a samurai stock image in art rage, i've been inspired by ancient japanese culture lately, and of course samurais, contempating whether to finish this off in art rage, or to run back to painter

The folds were a pain in the ass, still don't think I'll be able to pull them off come paint time.

light and perspective

oh, what a learning experience, something so simple in theory is actually really difficult to construct, a simple box with 1 and 4 point perspectives, lit correctly, with shadows, man i underestimated the value in doing these..

here you ago, invested a good 30-45 minutes in these, learning how to correctly map out my perspective and light the shapes, in art rage, i think i did alright :)

rager.

An update, yipyip.

Got inspired by a piece in a Painter discussion thread over at conceptart.org by Simon Dominic Brewer (http://www.painterly.co.uk) he's a really epic Painter artist, and decided to give art rage a spin, and pulled it off, so I booted up the dusty old art rage and painted this, no ref, about 15 minutes, just throwing strokes around, tried to be as abstract as possible :)

Have a good day :)

www.artrage.com, if anyones interested, its 30 bucks, for a real quality painting tool, the community at the website is great, and there are some really great tutorials and resources there, so go check it out!!

planes

i owe you guys an extra one for being so lazy and not updating..

painter/45mins/ref

some of the horizontal lines could be fixed, in hine sight, and its not really that readable, but i'm happy that i got the reference onto my canvas, with no colour picking and no tracing :)

have a great day!!

cruso

hey guys, sorry for the massive delay on the latest post, family went over the monthly bandwidth so the internet is temporarily and unbearably slow.

all will be fine on the 11th once we get reset, however, this sketch i wanted to share, and the net speed was acceptable so i decided to upload it :)

painter/2hrs/ref

i'm happy with it, just wanted to see how i handled a structure on an angle, canvas was tiny around like 800 pixels i believe, so detail is vague

have a great day!

Lilo

Should have really held off on that wip update from the post earlier, wasn't necessary because I finished only around an hour later.

Painter/3-4 hours/ref only for sketch and occasional colour reference

I'm happy with the result, more happy then what I am with my Stitch piece anyway.  Perhaps there is too much contrast for her skin, but I like the cartooney look :)

wip-to-the-wowimnotdoneyet

Painter just crashed, so I figured I'd boot the thing back up and give you a wip crop of what I'm up to, should be finished tonight sometime.

On other news, today, the 25th of April is ANZAC day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) and is a day of rememberance and mourning for Australians and New Zealanders alike.  On a personal level today (out of all the 365 days in the year) is the proudest day of the year, annually.  I usually get up, do a minute of silence, and sing my national anthem, and often head over to Kings Park for the dawn service, one of a kind really.

Today, however, dad forgot to set the alarm for 4.30 so I missed the dawn service, however I did 2 minutes of silence and remembered all day, so I think I redeemed myself.

Takecare everyone, and have a great day!

lilo!

Recently I finished a character study on Disney character 'Stitch' and after Rhino falling to pieces workflow wise I decided Stitch is nothing without his mellow, laid back islander soul mate, Lilo!

So here you have it, my Lilo sketch, internet problems have delayed the post, and thus I am over half way through painting her, describing form while maintaining the cartooney, yet painterly look I wanted has proved difficult, but I'm getting it done!

Just sketching from observation, my teacher seems to think I have a personality kinda' like Rhino from the animation film Bolt, so I decided to sketch him.  Will finish the colouring in painter tonight!

1 hour, ref, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro
